First may we offer our sincere condolences to all bereaved persons visiting this site, on behalf of Her Majesty's Coroner for the Jurisdiction of Inner Northern District of Greater London.
The Jurisdiction covers the London Boroughs of Camden, Islington, Hackney and Tower Hamlets.
Her Majesty's Coroner is an Independent Judicial Officer. The Coroner is therefore independent of both central and local Government, the Police, the NHS, and any other organisation or institution.
The Coroner's powers exist to investigate the cause and circumstances of sudden death of which the cause is unknown, unnatural deaths and deaths in Prison or Police custody. These are common Law and statutory Investigatory powers that are outside and therefore exempt from the Human Tissue Act 2004.
However, these powers cease to exist for a specific case as soon as it has been conducted. Finally, the Coroner, the Coroner's Officers and support staff aim to help you with the Medical and Legal aspect of your bereavement.
We understand that this may be one of the worst times of your life. We may not be able to make it seem any better but we do not aim to make matters any worse.
